Fishing report 21 - 26 JUNE 2015

Four anglers made up the party for our first guests of the 2015 season. Three from Moscow, and one guest from Iceland. Three were experienced fly anglers, and one a complete beginner. Early in the week the sun graced us with its presence,  and the real northern summer was felt. The wind generally blew from the southern and easterly directions, allowing guests walk out in clothes without sleeves. Temperature was for the first three days a shade under twenty degrees centigrade. For the remaining days the temperature gradually decreased, with one day where the mercury only rose to nine degrees.  Water level typical to start a season with the river brimming. Water temperature fluctuated from eleven to thirteen degrees centigrade. Perfect for salmon fishing.

With the Salmon only recently arrived the anglers were delighted with the silvery sides, and with the water levels high, there are many places that hold fish, which later in the season will be no more than shallows. As a result of this, it is possible to experiment with sizes and weight of flies. But also with the high levels, it is quite difficult to spot salmon in many of the pools. Mostly the salmon resided in the  calm, steady stretches and here our guests spent most of their time. Constant changing of flies seemed to be the most effective technique.  Dmitry caught the first Atlantic salmon of seventy five centimeters.  Streamers also worked very well. Ingvar, our guest from Iceland, fished the brightest of them. Result - ten Atlantic salmon.  All guests commented that fish were battling well, with much leaping and not at all easy to land with the good flows.

One day was dedicated to the pursuit of trout, and with sunny weather they rose freely to the dry fly. No huge fish, the biggest being perhaps one kilo, but all fish battling with the determination for which truly wild brown trout have the reputation for.

All anglers commented on how much they had enjoyed their time with us at Belousiha river lodge.
